Participants will receive five weeks of training at South Mountain Community College’s Construction Trades Institute which includes college credits and an OSHA 30 certification.

 

Individuals will meet six times in-person over five weeks which will include learning in construction safety, hand/power tools, construction calculations, construction drawings, and OSHA 30 training.

 

Training will be held at the South Mountain Community College Construction Trades Institute which is live learning hub with a student-centric approach:

  • Dedicated Construction Trades Student building here on the SMCC Campus
  • Designated Academic Advisor
  • Hybrid classes, and outside classroom experience
  • Emphasis in hands-on experience
  • Unique access to community partners

Through a partnership with City of Phoenix Arizona@Work, Plaza Companies, Layton Construction and the Maricopa Community Colleges - South Mountain Community College Construction Trades Institute, eligible participants will receive funding for training costs and student specific needs.

The five-week training will be followed by interviews with Layton Construction and sub-contractors for positions at the Park Central development that includes two hotels under construction.

The City of Phoenix Arizona@Work team will coordinate the pre-apprenticeship paid training for the selected candidates.
