What is Web Design?

Web Design is all about designing websites and apps. You’ll ensure that websites and apps look and feel amazing to users! You’ll use Adobe design tools and code like HTML, CSS and JavaScript to create aesthetically beautiful, meaningful and usable designs. As a Web Designer you’ll build what users experience.

What is Web Development?

Web Development is all about the technical aspects of websites and apps. You’ll ensure that websites and apps work to perfection! As a Web Developer, you’ll work on things that users don’t see, like the connections to the database where customer and product information is stored.

Is there an overlap between Web Design and Web Development?

Yes! In smaller organizations one person is often responsible for both, and in larger companies Designers and Developers work together to plan and develop amazing websites and apps. SMCC’s Associate’s degree in Web Design and Development will equip you with the foundational skills for both. It also allows you to go deep and specialize in either Design or Development!

Do I need a degree to work in the industry?

SMCC’s Associate’s Degree in Web Design and Development is the ideal place to start. It gives you the skills to enter the workplace and it provides a direct pathway to Bachelor’s Degree programs of your choice at Phoenix College, ASU Polytech, ASU West, ASU Online, NAU, UofA and GCU. We’ll help you make the right choice!

What programs are offered?

Most students pursue the Associates Degree In Web Design & Development. This program is designed to be completed by full time students in 2 years.
