Please join us at our annual evening reception celebrating the life and legacy of Verna McClain.

Verna McClain left her mark on the South Mountain community through tireless philanthropy, volunteering and devotion. From the moment she arrived in 1969, Verna became a force for good in South Phoenix.

Her tireless efforts to bring activities to the area resulted in the creation of the South Mountain Festival Parade, the Pioneer Luncheon and the South Mountain Villager newsletter.

Verna and others also fought vigorously to bring South Mountain Community College to life more than 45 years ago. Her legacy lives on in our community and at SMCC through the Verna McClain Student Emergency Fund.

What is the Verna McClain Student Emergency Fund? 

An unexpected bill, transportation barriers, childcare issues and food insecurity can dramatically hinder a student's ability to complete their career and educational goals. The Verna McClain Student Emergency Fund is that bridge for students facing these emergencies and helps them persevere and successfully complete their educational journey at SMCC by providing up to $500 within 24-48 hours.

By joining Verna McClain’s Fundraiser as a sponsor, your investment will not only directly contribute to the Verna McClain’s Student Emergency Fund, your organization will also gain exposure to our community of students, faculty, staff, alumni and local SMCC residents.
