SMCC dedicated the Dr. Raul Cardenas Athletic Complex landmark signage on Monday, November 20 with guests from all over the Valley.
The ceremony celebrated the legacy of Dr. Cardenas and his work to help advocate for the college, Athletics, its programs and his overall footprint in education. The event welcomed guests such as Alfredo Gutierrez, Activist and former MCCCD Governing Board Member, Dr. Jerome Garrison, retired SMCC faculty and community advocate, Earl Wilcox, first SMCC Athletic Director, Diana Figueroa SMCC Alumni, SMCC faculty, staff and of course Dr. Cardenas' family.
The ceremony marked a momentous time for SMCC and its community, hoping to lead by sharing his legacy of believing in the power of education and the impact of sports on our students.
We would like to thank everyone who joined the ceremony and celebrated this moment with the South Phoenix community.
The Dr. Raul Cardenas Athletic Complex signage can be seen at the North and South entrance of the Athletic fields and gym.
