After a nationwide search, Dr. Alice Murillo has been named as the new Vice President of Academic Affairs (VPAA) at South Mountain Community College, effective July 8, 2024.
Dr. Murillo is an experienced administrator who brings a wealth of higher education experience to this position. Most recently, she has served as Associate Provost, Chelsea Campus at Bunker Hill Community College since 2015. In this position she had oversight over the academic areas of Health Sciences; Science, Engineering & Math; Professional Studies (Career Technical Education-CTE) and the TRIO Talent Search Program anchored at Chelsea High School. She was also the Principal Investigator for the BHCC Title V Hispanic Serving Institution Guided Pathways to Success grant.
Prior to her position as Associate Provost, Dr. Murillo served as Dean and Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs at City College of San Francisco, Vice President of Academic Affairs at Diablo Valley College, Dean of Math, Science & Engineering at Sacramento City College in California, and Director of Planning, Development & Institutional Research at the University of Puerto Rico, Ponce Campus. She also served as a tenured faculty member at Hartnell College in California and the University of Puerto Rico, Ponce Campus.
Dr. Murillo holds a Ph.D. in Research Design & Statistics from Florida State University; a M.A.T. in Mathematics from the University of Florida; and a B.S. in Mathematics from Catholic University of Puerto Rico. She has completed graduate work in mathematics at the University of Puerto Rico, Mayaguez and holds a certificate from Harvard Graduate School of Education’s Institute for Management and Leadership in Education.
