This past week, author, storyteller and performer Christopher Rivas stopped by the campus for an engaging and transformative conversation on identity, belonging and the power of narrative in shaping our futures.
The event drew students, campus leadership and faculty as Christopher guided students through deep questions about voice, truth, and the responsibility to tell stories that honor our experiences and communities. Students reflected on their identities, sense of belonging in academic spaces, and the power of seeing themselves represented in narrative spaces.
One of the most meaningful outcomes was the sense of connection. Students lingered after the formal session for one-on-one conversations, asking thoughtful questions, sharing personal stories and exploring future creative and academic pathways.
Additionally, Christopher extended an invitation for our students to attend his upcoming performance at ASU Gammage, offering 30 complimentary tickets to continue building community and deepening their learning through live artistic experience. This opportunity highlights the continued bridge between our campus, CSRD, and broader ASU arts and storytelling initiatives.
We look forward to continued collaboration and opportunities to elevate diverse narratives, build cross-campus coalition, and expand creative learning pathways for our students.
