SMCC student Perla Rodriguez has successfully completed the MCCCD Student Public Policy Forum (S.P.P.F.) Program with the Center for Civic Engagement for the 2024-2025 academic year — making history as the first SMCC student representative in nearly a decade!
An active and passionate student leader, Perla is involved in MEChA, DECA, and Phi Theta Kappa (PTK). She continues to make her mark both on campus and beyond. Here’s what she had to say about her experience:
"My experience in the SPPF program was unforgettable. I learned about civic engagement, public policy, and how to advocate for my community. Another piece of wisdom I obtained was that advocacy can look different, but everything that matters to you is worth advocating for. The Washington D.C. experience is really the cherry on top because you get to put all the learned skills to practice for a good and well-deserved cause that can benefit community college students. I can go on for days, but I'll let my actions speak for themselves."
Congratulations to Perla Rodriguez!
