Eight SMCC students from Phi Theta Kappa and EdRising, led by SMCC Faculty member Dr. L. Andrea Brownlee, served at Feed My Starving Children. Both last week. Both clubs have service at their core, and this event was a powerful way for students to live that value.
At Feed My Starving Children, the team worked together to package meals for children in need around the world. The organization’s mission is: "We want to reach everyone, until ALL are fed." This message reminded students of the importance of service, especially when it’s within our power to make a real difference in the lives of others.
The experience was a remarkable opportunity for personal growth. As students participated in the packing process, they also gained essential skills like leadership, teamwork, and problem-solving. These projects offer more than just a chance to give back—they provide an environment where students can practice these skills in a real-world context while fostering meaningful connections with their peers.
It was inspiring to see the students' engagement in the cause and the impact it had on them. They reflected on how the service project helped them grow not just as individuals but as leaders within their communities. This event truly highlighted the values of Phi Theta Kappa and EdRising—service, leadership, and personal development.
