Dr. Alice Murillo

Dr. Murillo has been Associate Provost, Chelsea Campus at Bunker Hill Community College since December, 2015. She has oversight over the academic areas of Health Sciences; Science, Engineering & Math; Professional Studies (Career Technical Education-CTE) and the TRIO Talent Search Program anchored at Chelsea High School. She is also the Principal Investigator for the BHCC Title V Hispanic Serving Institution Guided Pathways to Success grant.

Dr. Murillo came to BHCC with extensive academic and administrative experience, having served as Dean and Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs at City College of San Francisco, Vice President of Academic Affairs at Diablo Valley College, Dean of Math, Science & Engineering at Sacramento City College in California, and Director of Planning, Development & Institutional Research at the University of Puerto Rico, Ponce Campus. She has also served in the interim positions of Dean of Academic Affairs, and Dean of the University/College Library & Academic Success Center at Broward College in Florida. With more than ten years of both undergraduate and graduate teaching experience, Murillo was a tenured faculty member at Hartnell College in California and the University of Puerto Rico, Ponce Campus.

Murillo’s work in higher education has been honored with a research fellowship from the Association of Institutional Research and the National Science Foundation as well as the MESA Administrator Award from the University of California, Office of the President, among other accolades.

Murillo holds a Ph.D. in Research Design & Statistics from Florida State University; an M.A.T. in Mathematics from the University of Florida; and a B.S. in Mathematics from Catholic University of Puerto Rico. She has completed graduate work in mathematics at the University of Puerto Rico, Mayaguez and holds a certificate from Harvard Graduate School of Education’s Institute for Management and Leadership in Education.

Dr. Joanne L. Russell

Dr. Joanne L. Russell

Dr. Joanne Russell serves as the Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost at CUNY Kingsborough Community College, where she has worked since January 2016. In this role, she oversees the College’s fifteen academic departments; has direct responsibility for all curricular and assessment matters, research, and faculty development; and oversees all offices and programs supporting student success, high school partnership programs, athletics, student life, student conduct, student wellness and counseling, Access-Ability services, and the Child Development Center.

Previously, she was Provost Fellow for Community College Access Programs and Workforce Development at the State University of New York System (SUNY) Administration, responsible for working with SUNY’s community colleges to scale initiatives that increase access, success, completion and workforce development. She has spent over 25 years working in higher education in both faculty and administrative roles, including Vice President for Academic Affairs at SUNY Westchester Community College in New York and Chief Academic Officer at Manchester Community College in Connecticut.

Throughout her career, Dr. Russell has provided leadership for equity initiatives, strategic planning, resource development, regional and programmatic accreditation, general education reform, developmental education redesign, high school partnership work, workforce development, program development and expansion, and extensive hiring of faculty and staff. She has been the Principal Investigator and Project Director of numerous grant-funded initiatives to strengthen student access, success, and completion. Dr. Russell earned a BS in Chemistry and a PhD in Biochemistry from the University of Connecticut.
