Prerequisites Approval Process

Some classes at South Mountain Community College have prerequisite educational requirements you must meet before you can enroll in the class.

Prerequisites from Other Institutions

To fulfill a prerequisite requirement, South Mountain Community College may consider classes you successfully completed at other U.S. regionally accredited universities, colleges or ACE evaluated programs.

Prerequisite verification requests are done on a case-by-case basis with the purpose of establishing equivalency with South Mountain Community College.

Submit a Request

If you are using a previous college or university class to meet the placement requirements from outside the Maricopa Community Colleges network, submit unofficial transcripts in a PDF format with the Prerequisite Verification Request e-form Form for evaluation. Photos of transcripts are not acceptable.

If you have faculty approval, please submit the documentation of the approval with the -form.

Prerequisites Approval Process

After the prerequisite verification process, you are notified and enrolled if it is determined that you have satisfied the prerequisite requirement.

Prerequisites may also be verified in-person at our main campus in the Student Enrollment Services (SES) building with a printed copy of your unofficial transcript.

Official College Transcript Evaluation (Official Transcripts)

If you intend to earn a degree or certificate from SMCC, please send your official transcript for evaluation to ensure you receive the credits earned from your previous institution.

  • To manage the required volume and time, transcript evaluations will be processed after students are admitted as degree-seeking students at South Mountain Community College.
  • Please send an official transcript from all institutions previously attended (outside of the Maricopa Community Colleges).Transcripts must be sent directly from the issuing institution, either electronically or by mail, to the following address: South Mountain Community College – Admissions 7050 S. 24th Street, Phoenix, AZ, 85042

To receive your transfer credit, please request your previous institution to send your official transcript to South Mountain Community College.

Please Note: Official transcripts will not be accepted if it is dropped off, emailed, or mailed by a student, even if the envelope is sealed.
